The Planning Commission is a volunteer committee comprised of appointed members of the community to assist in the review, recommendation and approvals of various development and land-use related applications, such as subdivision plats, development site plans, conditional use permits, proposed City Land Use Code amendments, City General Plan updates, etc.  Most of the items reviewed by the Planning Commission are forwarded to the City Council with recommendations regarding approval.


Members serve during a 4-year term, and are expected to attend two evening meetings each month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursday. Occasionally, Planning Commissioners will also meet with the City Council in a joint work session. Although no compensation is provided for this community service, dinner is provided to the commissioners in a work session prior to the regular meetings.
